Contact: Tammy Kuneff, Gertrude McCallum or Maria Plott A Community Response for Homeless Families The National Interfaith Hospitality Network is a national, non-profit organization that assists religious and community organizations in developing and operating Network programs. Our goal is to alleviate homelessness by fostering the development of Networks that provide shelter, meals, and assistance for homeless persons, and that increase community involvement in direct service and advocacy. Friendly Avenue is a sponsoring host for the Guilford Interfaith Hospitality Network. As a part of the Greensboro Interfaith Hospitality Network, our congregation has a turn every thirteen weeks to host homeless families. We give these families a place to stay, and we feed them three meals a day. The guests of the network spend their days at work, school, or at Paisley House, the network day center. During our host week, the guests arrive at the church building around 5:30 p.m. and leave the next morning at 7:00 a.m. There is always a need for volunteers to assist in this very rewarding service. Current needs: Twin or double-size sheets, pillowcases, blankets, towels and wash cloths (new or gently used) for our GIHN host week. GIHN Host Week is September 16-22. GIHN Web site |
