Ministry Offerings |
- Heart-to-Heart - (Heart-to-Heart profile card) We take the directive of older women teaching younger women (Titus 2) very seriously and so the Heart-to-Heart program has become the centerpiece of the G.E.M.S. ministry. Every woman is older in some way to another woman. She may be chronologically older; she may have been a Christian longer; or, she may have been married or a mother longer. We also recognize that in our society, many times women do not live near their mothers or grandmothers. A woman’s mother may not be a Christian, or may not be a part of her daughter’s life. Heart-to-Heart seeks to fill these gaps by encouraging the more mature woman (the "mentor") to take an active interest in a younger woman (the "merea") to help her learn, to encourage her, to be a listening ear, and to support her in whatever may come her way.
The Heart-to-Heart commitment lasts for one year. General guidelines are given for the structure of the mentoring relationship and the rest is up to you! Enjoy some extra fellowship, meet for lunch or coffee, take a walk together, or participate in a Bible study together. Whatever you find to do, do it together. Pray for one another and with one another. God will use this relationship to grow you and your merea in ways that you never imagined!
- Brunch for Mothers of Young Children – This brunch is offered to the mothers of young children as a way for us to honor them. The brunch is planned annually as a time away for these moms. A program is planned which may include some humor, a devotional, and a question-and-answer time.
- Card Ministry – This ministry is designed to make sure the events in our lives are recognized—whether it is a card of encouragement or a Happy Birthday, everything that happens to us that is important.
- Ladies Beach Retreat – The Ladies Beach Retreat is an annual event. It is designed as a time to pamper ourselves a little bit, and a time of personal reflection and growth. Every attempt is made to make this an affordable retreat and scholarships are also available.
- Luncheon to Honor Senior Sisters – This luncheon is hosted by our younger women for the senior sisters. We recognize their wealth of knowledge and experience and the many ways that they serve their community and our church family. The luncheon is our chance to spend some time with these women and to honor them for all that they do.
- Ornament Exchange – The Ornament Exchange is scheduled each December as a fellowship gathering. Each woman brings a wrapped ornament (for the "dirty Santa" game) and a finger food to share. It is a great evening of fun, laughter, and fellowship!
- Picnic in the Park – Picnic in the Park is a day of fellowship in the great outdoors. The idea is to enjoy a day of relaxation and recreation with our Sisters. A cook-out lunch is also provided.
- Quarterly Devotionals – Devotionals are held on a quarterly basis to address some timely issues facing women. A fellowship activity follows the devotional, too.
- Sister-to-Sister Newsletter – The newsletter is a great way to stay in touch with the other sisters at Friendly Ave. Published monthly, the newsletter includes: "Sister in the Spotlight," "A Challenge for the Spirit," "Recipe Corner," "Focus on 20/20," "Book Review," "Life’s Seasons," "Red Hat Reflections," "Taking Care of Your Temple," "Grey Hair Talking," "Helpful Hints," and other informative articles for women.
